Our Speaker

Renaldo Hudson is an educator, minister, and community organizer who focuses his work on decarceration in the state of Illinois. Renaldo was arrested at the age of 19 and has personally seen the impact of this work not being done. He was sentenced to death row and worked for 37 years while incarcerated in the Illinois Department of Corrections, becoming a leader and educator. During his time in the Department of Corrections, Renaldo developed the prison newspaper Stateville Speaks and the Building Block Program which is a transformation program run by incarcerated people within the Illinois Department of Corrections. In September 2020, Renaldo was released from prison when Governor Pritzker commuted his life sentence. Currently he is Director of Education at the Illinois Prison Project.
