RPC to Unveil Outreach Vehicle Unlike Any Other in the State of Illinois; New Vehicle to Be Utilized for LIHEAP Services in Champaign County

Equipped with computers and a sound system, the vehicle will deliver the program directly to individuals and families in the community during scheduled events.

The RPC will unveil a new vehicle that will help staff deliver LIHEAP services directly to Champaign County residents during a press conference on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. The event will run from 1:30pm to 2:30pm at the Brookens Gym in Urbana (1776 E. Washington Street).

Administered locally by the RPC, LIHEAP is a federally funded program that provides one-time benefits to income-eligible homeowners and renters to help with energy bills and for reconnection of energy service, while educating them to conserve energy, lower their costs, and work toward financial self-sufficiency. The program runs annually from September 1 to May 31, or until funding is exhausted.

The first and only of its kind in the state of Illinois, the LIHEAP Outreach Mobile being introduced on December 14 is equipped with four workstations, computers, and a speaker/sound system. It will help RPC staff conduct outreach and intake for LIHEAP in Champaign County communities and neighborhoods that are hard to serve and have had low program participation.
